For my birthday, I finally purchased everything I needed to make an IKEA greenhouse cabinet. I used the MILSBO wide because it fit best in the space I had available, but there are different size of cabinets to pick from. I’m going to share what I used and how I built it.
Items used for my IKEA Greenhouse Cabinet:
- MILSBO Wide Cabinet
- SKÅDIS Pegboard
- SKÅDIS Shelf – 2
- SKÅDIS Container with Lid – 2
- Barrina T5 Grow Lights
- Govee Indoor Hygrometer
- USB Fans
- Weatherstripping
- 2-inch hole saw
- Flexible Grommet
- Magnets
How I put together my IKEA greenhouse cabinet:
First, we built the cabinet according to the instructions but left out the glass shelves. Kenny drilled a 2-inch hole in the top of the cabinet to run the wires because our outlet was above the cabinet. Then we added a grommet for the sharp edges.
Next, I added the pegboard with the included screws on the back support of the cabinet. I didn’t tighten them all the way so I could add the shelves to the pegboard. I did use a sharpie to color the screws black because they came with white and stuck out.
For the lights, I super glued the magnets to the clips that came with the lights. Then added two strips of lights to the top of the cabinet.
I had Kenny drill holes in the bottom of the plastic containers that came with the lids and used those containers in the shelves because they fit perfectly. I used the lids as shelves for other plants and the hygrometer.
Right now, I have one fan set on the top of the pegboard, and the other on the bottom of the cabinet. I may eventually get a magnetic hook for the top fan and have it angled from the top of the cabinet. You do need a USB power adapter for the fans.
Lastly, I added the weatherstripping around the doors. It doesn’t close it up completely, but now my humidity is hanging around 85% when the doors are closed. It drops down to 60-70% when I open the doors. As of now, I don’t need a humidifier in there, but we will see what happens in the winter.
Hope this helps you build your own IKEA greenhouse cabinet. If you have any questions leave a comment or send me an email.
