If you missed Day 1 & 2 Click Here. Now onto Day 3 & 4.
Tuesday we first went to a class for helping the hips and how weight bearing is soooo important for them. We talked about different braces, standers and gait trainers (btw I think Carsyn’s is finally ordered or soon to be ordered. can’t wait to get it).
Then we went straight into talking about different medicines to control spasticity and dystonia. We talked about baclofen, botox and surgeries that could help with the spasticity. She was very positive about Select Dorsal Rhizotomy which I was looking into for Carsyn. I had heard a ton of positive things and success stories online. More research for me to do.
Next we had lunch from Sticky Fingers again. Soooo yummy!! After lunch we had an awesome class about keep medical recordsf or your kids. They passed out Record Keeping with a Care Notebook. You can put all their medical needs, medicines, likes and dislikes in it. I can not wait to start Carsyn’s notebook. This was very informative and resourceful.
Then we had hands on Physical Therapy. She showed me some new things to help Carsyn’s Core Strength. Carsyn really enjoyed this as you can see from the photos. They also had a vendor fair with different groups, goodies and info. They also had poster boards of some of the kids that have passed away.
After all of that we had delicious pizza, lasagna, ziti and garlic knots from Rosarios. Yummy!!! Then after dinner we headed over to Charlotte Motor Speedway to watch the Legend Car races. I posted more photos here.
Wednesday was the last day. I was sad to see it end but ready to get home after being gone so much.
The first class we took was about Alternative Options in Physical Therapy. I think this was the most informative class for me. She talked about the brushing program, the listening program and a few other therapies I had not heard of before. I am up for trying anything conventional or not conventional. It was great hearing some new things to try.
Then we went to a High Tech Communications Session. This wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be. I thought she would talk more about the iPad and what speech apps are good. She talked more about Speech devices that are out and high tech. Which was very informative just not what I expected.
We had lunch from McAlister’s again. Their sandwiches are so good. After lunch we heard information about Hipptheraphy. Which I would love to try with Carsyn soon! I love horses anyways, so I think this would be awesome.
I took pictures of the inside of the church because the Murals were amazing. See??
We did have to head back to the hotel after that. Carsyn was soooo exhausted and Dustyn had a break down. They both took a nice rest. Then we headed back. We missed the relay races but we did grab some dinner. I got to snap a few photos of the kids during kids camp and a couple photos of the Families for Hope Board Members.
After dinner I took family photos for all the HPE families. I posted them all on my Photography site. If you want to see them go here. Enter HoPE12. I will end with this little guy. He LOVED my frog. I brought it over and let all the kids touch it. He grabbed it right off the camera and searched for the squeaker. It was adorable!!
That is the end of the conference break down and photos. I had so much fun and I want to thank you all that donated money so we could go. I met some awesome people and I have a lot more HoPE for what is in store for our family. Love you all!
