I made these adorable DIY shaped crayons for a dinosaur party that I am posting on the blog tomorrow. I wanted to share how I made them along with a few tips that will help along the way. I found this silicon mold in the baking section of Walmart. I am excited to see what else I can make with it.
DIY Shaped Crayons
Materials:
Crayons
X-Acto Knife
Silicon Mold
Cookie Sheet
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 225°F. Take an X-Acto knife and run the blade down the length of the crayon wrapper. Peel away the wrapper.
Break the crayons into about 1/2 inch pieces. Place the broken crayons pieces into the molds slightly overfilled. I took different shades of the same color and filled the mold, but rainbow colors would be pretty too.
Place the molds on a cookie sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until crayons are fully melted.
Carefully remove the cookie sheet from the oven. Let them sit on the counter until they start to harden.
Then place in the freezer for 30 minutes, or until completely cooled. Once the bottom of the mold feels cool you can pop out your new crayons.
Tip: I suggest letting them sit out of the freezer for a few minutes before removing the crayons from the mold.
There are endless possibilities with these. You could make hearts for Valentine’s Day, or bunnies and flowers for Easter. What crayon shape do you plan to make?
