On April 4th I woke up feeling crampy around 2:45am so I sat on the exercise ball in the bathroom. I wasn’t sure if it was the real deal. Around 3:30 I felt a pop and water leaking so jumped up and got to the toilet for the most of it. This was the first time my water broke on it’s own in all of my pregnancies. From the bathroom I yelled to Kenny that my water broke. He was asleep so he wasn’t sure if I was joking or not. It was pretty funny. I called my parents so they could come down and watch the boys.
We arrived to the hospital about 5am. (If I could do this over again I would have stayed home for longer. That was my plan for when labor started, but the water breaking kind of freaked me out. With my last two births as soon as the doctors broke my water they went super quick, so I didn’t want to put off going to the hospital too long.)
She was in a weird position and wasn’t putting pressure on my cervix so I was only 2cm dilated when we arrived. They had to bring in the ultrasound machine to make sure she was still head down. She was but her head was in my left hip and her back was on my right side. They gave me the peanut ball in between my legs and had me lay on my left side. Then I got on the regular exercise ball and did some hip circles. I also did some swaying. The doctor came back about a hour later and checked and she was in a good position.
I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes but they weren’t too painful yet. Around 11am my contractions started getting more painful and I was 6cm dilated. So they moved me to a bigger room. At 1pm I was feeling kind of pushy. A nurse that was training checked me and said I was a 9 but the doctor came in a little bit later and said I was only a 7 but would probably have her within the hour.
Not 20 minutes went by and I could feel myself bearing down. At this point I was yelling, I can’t do this. I thought to myself, why did I refuse pain medicine? They got the nurses and sure enough I was complete. They had me wait to push while they waited for the doctor to get back. He walked in the door about 2:05 and she was born at 2:09 after 1 contraction and a couple pushes.
Kenny was able to cut the cord after it stopped pulsing.
We did skin to skin for a good hour before they weighed her and did her check over. I wanted to do that with Carsyn and Prestyn but they both came out pretty blue so they had to get some oxygen afterwards. I was so happy that I was able to do it with her.
Annelyn weighed 8lbs 12oz and was 19inches long. She was our smallest baby and quickest pushing wise. I was sad the doctor I saw for my entire pregnancy wasn’t there, but it all worked out.
Here are some photos of the boys meeting their sister for the first time.
They are all so in love with her and ask to hold her all the time.
Prestyn’s Birth Story | Carsyn’s Birth Story
Dustyn’s was a planned c-section because he was measuring big, so I never wrote a story for him. I still kick myself for not even trying to give birth to him, I feel like I could have done it and I wouldn’t have set myself up to always be a VBAC. I am thankful I was able to VBAC though because if I didn’t Prestyn and Annelyn would probably not be here. Not sure I could have handled more then 2 c-sections.
